Meowcoin Core Mandatory Update - 2.0.3

Firstly, thank you for running Meowcoin Core and helping secure the network! Special thanks to Zach, Meowcoin Lead Dev, and all those who have been testing the new updates. The official release notes are available on our GitHub page: Meowcoin GitHub Release Notes.

What to Do

  1. Shutdown: If you’re running an older version of Meowcoin Core, shut it down. Wait until it’s completely shut down, which might take a few minutes for older versions.
  2. Backup: Copy your wallet file to somewhere safe. It's always good practice to backup valuable wallet data before any update.
  3. Install 2.0.3: Download and install version 2.0.3 from the links provided at the bottom of this post.

NOTE: Upgrading to 2.0.3 will prepare you for the MeowPow activation on March 18th. If you fail to upgrade, the old blockchain using KawPow will stop servicing new blocks, and you will not be able to operate your coins until you upgrade.

Changes in This Core Wallet

  • MeowPow Activation: Prepare for the new mining algorithm.
  • DAG Size Changes: Adjustment to the Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) size for improved efficiency.

Additional improvements include:

  • Enhanced security.
  • Faster syncing and a streamlined codebase, making it more attractive for developers.
  • Improved code for integrations with Dapps and other crypto resources.
  • The first step to MeowPoW, which aims to save electricity for miners and increase profitability.
  • A new design upgrade to match our brand.

MeowPow and DAG Size Updates

  • MeowPow Activation: Scheduled for March 18th, 2024.
  • DAG Size Increase: Scheduled for Epoch 110, Block 825000. This is an important update from the previous versions.

Running MeowPow R6 Testnet

For those who wish to join the MeowPow R6 Testnet:

  1. Add testnet=1 in your meowcoin.conf file and start the wallet.
  2. Testnet nodes will not automatically connect to other testnet nodes. Please manually connect using these IP addresses:
    • addnode 51.159.168.212 add
    • addnode 144.91.115.96 add
    • addnode 99.233.25.27 add
