Meowcoin End of May Developer Update
A lot has happened since our last update. The Apex era is well underway, the network is healthy, and some genuinely exciting things have landed on-chain. Here's the full picture as we close out May 2026.
Meowcoin v30.2.2 — Stable and Recommended
v30.2.2 is the latest stable release and what everyone should be running. If you haven't upgraded yet, now is the time. The Apex codebase built on Bitcoin Core 30.2 is no longer a release candidate. It's the network.
If you're not sure how to migrate, we've put together two videos to help. The first is a direct walkthrough of the migration process itself:
Meowcoin Apex Migration Walkthrough
If you want a broader sense of what's changing, why, and how Apex works under the hood:
We recommend these to anyone who has questions about moving over. The migration is straightforward once you see it done.
SegWit: First Full Transaction On-Chain
Worth pausing on this one. A full SegWit transaction has already occurred on Meowcoin mainnet. Not testnet, the live chain. SegWit means smaller and more efficient transactions, and seeing it land in the wild confirms the upgrade is working exactly as intended.
Post-Quantum Addresses: Ready When Needed
Post-quantum address support is already in the codebase, implemented and validated. These addresses aren't activated by default yet since the network doesn't need them today, but they're ready to be switched on when the time comes. Building for threats before they materialize is exactly the kind of long-horizon thinking that defines this project.
Electrs Infrastructure: Built for the Apex Era
We've moved from ElectrumX to electrs, Blockstream's Rust-based Electrum server implementation, adapted and modified for Meowcoin's needs. The fleet currently runs across five nodes:
- electrs.mewccrypto.com
- electrs2.mewccrypto.com
- electrs3.meowcoin.org
- electrs4.meowcoin.org
- electrs5.meowcoin.org
All five have WSS and SSL enabled. This infrastructure backs the Apex web wallet, the Discord faucet bot, the Electrum wallet client, and GleecDEX. We recently stress tested the fleet and it handled 132,000+ wallet requests per minute across the five nodes, with electrs2 leading at 800+ req/s and sub-50ms latency. It held up clean across the board.
This is the backbone developers and future Meowcoin wallets will build on.
GleecDEX: Decentralized Swaps, Fully Supported
Komodo Wallet, where MEWC has been listed for a while, was acquired by Gleec in late 2025 at a $23.5M valuation. Gleec absorbed the full Komodo technology stack including AtomicDEX, their bridge-free cross-chain atomic swap infrastructure, and rebranded it as GleecDEX. We've updated our Electrum infrastructure with Gleec to make sure their system is properly prepared for Apex, so MEWC trading on GleecDEX continues to work seamlessly. We couldn't recommend it more for decentralized swaps.
Discord Bot: Earn MEWC for Participating
We launched an in-house Discord bot and it's already a hit. Up to 500 MEWC per day just for participating in the community, and up to 1,000 MEWC per day per node if you're running an inbound Meowcoin node.
To qualify for node rewards your node needs to be running v30.2.0 or higher with inbound connections enabled on port 8788. Then add one line to your meowcoin.conf:
uacomment=YOUR-REFERRAL-CODE
Run /referral in Discord to get your unique code, drop it in your config, and restart your node. The bot picks it up automatically once it's visible on the network. You can run as many nodes as you want and each one counts. Node discovery isn't 100% reliable yet so rewards may not fire every single day, we're refining it as we go.
To get started join the official Meowcoin Discord and use /setaddress to link your MEWC address.
Network Health
The network is in good shape. The Meowcoin map at map.mewccrypto.com currently shows 589 identified nodes: 143 active, 213 inactive, and 233 historical. A node count like that reflects a real distributed network. Running an inbound node strengthens the network and puts more MEWC in your pocket at the same time.
Community Tools: The Ecosystem is Growing
The community has been building and I couldn't be happier about it. Here's what's been shipped:
A community-made Meowcoin Electrum wallet for Android is now available. A new Apex-era stratum proxy miner has been built. And we have a MeowPow mining pool that I personally put together for fun, fully Apex ready with US-west and US-east stratums available:
The pool backend and the underlying MeowPow implementation are both written in Rust. The crate is published if you want to build on it:
The Community is Buzzing
The Discord has been noticeably more active lately. A big part of that is price action starting to reflect what the development history has been building toward. Meowcoin remains significantly undervalued relative to what this project has actually shipped technically. That's not financial advice, but the gap is real and the community knows it.
What's Next: v30.2.3
Work on v30.2.3 is already underway. We'll share specifics as the release takes shape. The pace of development hasn't slowed, if anything the Apex foundation has made it easier to move quickly.
